Our Simple Homeplace

Our simple place that the Lord blessed us with was once part of my paternal great-grandfather's dairy farm. There several other family members that live on other parts of the dairy farm, too. So we always have family close by if we need them. Our DD is the 5th generation of my daddy's family to live on this land.

We started out in a single-wide mobile home almost 28 years ago. That mobile home was built in 1968 and made a great little home for us to start out in. It was small, but cozy. There are times I still miss our little home with its leaking roof and one bathroom. It will always hold a special place in my heart.

Almost 10 years ago, we purchased a double-wide mobile home and moved in. It has much more space and two bathrooms. We have situated it on our land so we can take advantage of the sun in the winter, but still have it in shade in the hottest  part of a summer day. It is also in the right spot that when we have the windows open we catch the breeze to cool the house on mild spring and fall days.

Over the years we have added two porches and a deck to back of the house. The views we have from everyone of them is beautiful. (I will share those views in another post.)

Our front porch is on the north side of the house. It is a shady, cool place to sit on a hot summer night. We hope to surround it with flower beds one day.

Our back deck is in the sun most of the day, which makes it a nice place to sit outside on a sunny, but cold winter day. In the summer, you can't sit out there until late afternoon, when our big oak tree throws it shadow over it. The deck and the yard around it make a great place to have a meal outside in the spring and summer. One day, we hope to add a hot tub and make it an enclosed sun room.

The most used entry point is our side door. It leads into our laundry room. Most everyone that comes to visit knows to use this door. It is shady most of the day, but bears the brunt of the summer sun in the afternoons and evenings.

Another view of our side porch. This is the entrance we and everyone else uses the most.

We don't live in a mansion and it isn't anything fancy, but it is filled with laughter, love, family, food, and fun. We simply like calling it home!

(I took these pictures last fall on an extremely beautiful fall day. I knew I would be posting these pictures in the dead of winter and wanted to showcase the simple beauty of the place. That beauty really doesn't shine in the winter, unless there is snow on the ground.)
