Christmas Gift Ideas For Kids: 5 To 8 Years Old

Most of my gift ideas for kids are educational ideas, but that is the teacher in me. However, everything I am sharing are tried, true, and tested by my own DD, nephews, nieces, and younger cousins. I have seen them playing with them and the fun they had.

5 To 8 Years Old

Legos: The building blocks for kids imagination. Legos are just a great, great toy for kids. They are great for building fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. The Creative Brick Sets allow kids to use their imagination to come up with their own creations. The themed sets are geared for building those following directions skills. As a mother and an aunt of children with Asperger's Syndrome that have fine motor and hand-eye coordination issues, legos are the PERFECT for gift for them. The step by step by instructions appeal to their need for order. However, be prepared for them to count each piece while they are taking the set apart. They like to account for every piece. Most of the themed sets can be quite pricey, but they are reasonably priced sets out there.

KNEX: Another type of building toys that use various shapes to build things. These building toys are used in schools to Science, Art, Math, Engineering, and Technology. There was a math teacher at the middle school  I work at that taught a whole unit as her classes built a huge Ferris wheel. They have creative and themed sets. KNEX fosters the same skills that Legos do. My Aspie found these to be a little more frustrating than Legos, because they require more finer motor skill work than Legos.

UNO Card Game: Uno is just a fun card game for the whole family to play. Even kids younger than 5 could learn to play the game with a little help. Uno helps stimulate those thinking and strategy skills. You can play with two people or 5 people. If you want to play with more than 5 people, a second deck is suggested. I have many, many fond memories of playing Uno at home, at school, and staying up most of the night playing on church campouts. It is just fun and best of all it is under $10.00.

Tomorrow I will share more ideas for older kids. Come back for a visit!

Living a simple life and loving every minute of it!
