Home Improvement Project Update

If you have visited "A Life Lived Simply" FB page, you have known about the home improvement project we have been working on for a few weeks now. The project is one we have wanted to do for a long time and now had the funds to go ahead with it. We are now in home stretch of getting everything finished and the room out back together.

All of us have a multitude of allergies, with dust mite allergies being one of them. So we have been wanting to replace our carpet with some type of hard wood or laminate flooring. With the funds available, we went looking at products and colors. We decided to go with Pergo Laminate flooring in Montgomery Apple Wood from Lowes Hardware

We choose the Montgomery Apple Wood because it had every color of wood in it that we had in our furniture for the living room. It is amazing how it picks up the color of a certain piece of furniture and makes it stand out. Well, see for yourselves!

Dark Browns

More dark browns

Tan Browns

Look how well it matches the popular wood this desk is made out of.

The Wednesday after Mother's Day weekend we began to move items and furniture from one side of the living room. As soon as the floor was cleared, DH started ripping up carpeting and removing carpeting tacks. That weekend, he laid down the underlayment and then the laminate flooring.

Can't say I am sad to see it go!

Carpet is gone. Now to remove tacks and staples.

Underlayment is down and the first rows are started.

So excited!

Half way done! Ready to do the rest!

The next weekend, DH removed a little more of the carpeting and started laying more laminate. This section of floor included our small hallway. We knew it was going to take a long time because of the transition pieces to be put down and boards needing to be cut. After about 10 hours of work, DH called finished what he wanted to do and called it quits for the day.

This little hallway required several hours of work, but...

it looks good, doesn't it?

Last week, DH had to work piecemeal with the remaining section of the living room. He pulled up carpet and removed the padding underneath, then he laid down the underlayment. He pulled the carpet back over the underlayment to protect it until he could lay the rest of the laminate. The day he took off early to rescue the cat, he finished laying the rest of the it.

The piecemeal work has begun.

Almost finished.

This Memorial Day Weekend, he worked on the transitions at the front door and sliding glass. He measured, cut, and stained the shoe molding to get it ready to be put down. We still have a ways to go, but when we finish, I will be sure to share the finished project to you. I am so excited to get it all done!

Getting rid of our carpet and putting down this beautiful Montgomery Apple Wood laminate is simply a GREAT home improvement project thing!
