Falls Of The Cullasaja River: Part 1

Early one Fall Sunday morning, we headed to the Highlands area of NC to see the waterfalls along the Cullasaja River; Bridal Veil Falls, Dry Falls, Quarry Falls, and Cullasaja Falls. Our main goal was to see Dry Falls but we were just as happy to see the other falls since they were on the way.

As we drove along the Mountain Water Scenic Byway heading towards Highlands, it was easy to see the river flowing along in the gorge. On the way to see to our first stop Bridal Veil Falls, we saw both the Cullasaja Falls and the Quarry Falls. We stopped to take a picture of the Quarry Falls, but didn't see a good spot to take a safe one of the Cullasaja Falls.

In the direction we were heading the next falls was Dry Falls, however, we headed on up the road to Bridal Veil Falls. Bridal Veil Falls is on a tributary to the Cullasaja River. It flows over an overhanging rock, which allows you to walk or even drive under it. I wasn't very impressed with this one. The water flowing over was more like a trickle. I am not sure what the deal was because when we made it back down to Dry Fall it had plenty of water flowing over it. However, it was still worth going to see, to walk under, and drive under it.

After stopping here, we headed back down to Dry Falls which was the main waterfall we drove to see. We were not disappointed! I will share more about Dry Falls with you tomorrow.

Simply enjoying the simple beauty God made when He created this good, good earth!
